  News » BioPak attends Auspak

BioPak attended the recent Auspak expo held at Sydney Olympic Park showgrounds and impressed visitors with their comprehensive range of compostable packaging solutions.

At this year's Auspak show in Sydney, members of the The Australian Bioplastics Association showcased their products under the ABA pavillion, many of the show visitors took the time to scope out this exhibit. The large response buoyed the hopes of the ABA members (The ABA or Australian BioPlastics Association is an Australian industry platform for manufacturers, converters and users of bioplastics and biodegradable polymers.) The pavilion included 6 exhibitors, including polymer producers such as NatureWorks, Novamont and Biograde; flexible film manufacturers & suppliers such as Innovia, and BioPak.

The ABA exhibitors were surprised at the level of interest from show attendees, and the number of leads generated has far exceeded their expectations.

The interest was overwhelming, and for good reason.

The ABA believes the strong interest in bioplastics is directly attributable to recent government legislation in South Australia banning plastic checkout bags coupled with the growing awareness that innovations such as bioplastics open up opportunities both for business and the environment.

Bioplastics are based primarily on renewable resources rather than crude oil. The technology has been in development for more than 15 years. Approximately 10 percent of the application areas for plastics could be covered by current bioplastics, including totally new applications not yet researched or tested.
