Yelo is a cafe with sustainability and community at front of mind. Based in Perth. In the suburbs of Trigg, Mount Hawthorn and Subiaco, they source their bean from grower direct, ethical and sustainable coffee farms, serve their products in eco-friendly Biopak takeaway packaging, and was one of the first to sign up for Australia’s national composting service for food service packaging.

The BioPak Compost Service is now available in five major cities across two countries – Auckland, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth. Auckland Council is a long term BioPak packaging customer and an early adopter of composting –  they have worm farms onsite for food waste and late last year BioPak helped them install compostable packaging bins at five of their offices to divert all their packaging waste from landfill too. Fitting perfectly within their 'Waste Management and Minimisation Plan' which sets the goal of zero waste to landfill by 2040.

Veganism is on the rise, with consumers seeking ethical, sustainable and healthy alternatives to traditional food consumption. So, it’s no surprise that Charlie’s Raw Squeeze®️ – a network of 10 juice, smoothie, and superfood bars in Queensland – is a huge success. Embracing the market-to-mouth philosophy, Charlie’s Raw Squeeze offers a range of plant-based meals, snacks, juices and smoothies all made with produce from their partner business, Charlie’s Fruit Market.

With so many packaging products made from paper, it’s important to ensure our forests are not irreparably damaged in the creation of paper-based packaging. The Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) is an international non-profit that acts to promote the responsible management of the world’s forests. We’ve chatted with FSC Australia CEO Sara Gipton to hear a little more about the benefits of certification, when it comes to sustainable packaging.

Currumbin RSL in South East Queensland has a mission to make a difference by lowering their carbon footprint. Since 2009 they have made a marked reduction in their waste, water and energy use.

They have many initiatives in place to do this, including a commitment to purchasing compostable packaging which, along with their organic food waste from various venues in the club can be composted in their BiobiN®, ready to be made into nutrient rich compost by Phoenix Power Recyclers.

1 tonne of food and packaging waste was collected from TEDxSydney at ICC, and composted within Soilco's standard compost cycle.
